[DJ PROMOTE'S PERSONAL BLOG] My Christmas Collection is WEAK!

The other night at dinner I admitted to some friends that... "I suck at picking out Christmas music, my collection is weak!" They gave me some positive feedback but I reassured them, they did not want me djing their Christmas parties. I usually tell people the same thing when they ask me to dj their weddings. I never feel confident about what Im playing then I get nervous and its all downhill from there lol. This year I've also learned that Im not much of a Christmas enthusiasts as lets say... MY WIFE! She loves Christmas and everything that goes with it. Shopping with lots of people, baking cookies, decorations and yes especially Christmas music! So to get on my Christmas game I started looking for some "good" Christmas tunes.

My ears were open and eager for something other than The Chipmunks and Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire. I had heard a few Christmas hiop-hop albums but I really just wanted something nice and traditional sounding. Wasn't really sure what I wanted but I just knew my collection needed help! So, while shopping with my wife in Forever21 there it was... GOOD Christmas Music! (I know weird right?)

The very first song I heard was tribal drum sounding and almost moombah-ish (side note: Moombah is a new form of music where you slow down House music to sound like Reggaeton and it usually has a little bit of hip-hop element to it, carry on ->). After that, the next song had a similar "hippster" type feel (another word you should google). My cell service (AT&T) was tripping so I couldnt Shazam anything! (ok sorry last weird word - older generation readers, Shazam is an app that finds songs by hearing them, get it!).

When we got home that night my wife, a detective and google expert, helped me find exactly what we heard in the store. It was remixed Christmas music, and I really like alot! I guess they found a variety of remixers to help produce tracks and its actually pretty dope stuff. Ive downloaded both albums, part 1 & 2 and even noticed the homie Ohmega Watts is featured as a remixer. Sweet!

So in the joyous spirit of the traditional American Christmas I wanted to say, "Feliz Navidad" and here is some music that might help you with your Scroogeness and brighten up almost any light tour.

Remixed Christmas 1

Remixed Christmas 2

Below are a few more albums, but these are FREE!

- The Lights Up Eyes On EP we made with Billy Graham Assoc. a few years back and especially the song with Moses Uvere - Best Christmas Ever

also Josh at Sphere sent this over... GO GET IT!

[DJ PROMOTE'S PERSONAL BLOG] Cookies, Video Shoots, Football and yeap DJING!!!

This month we have been working on a lot of upcoming events and bookings. The 2012 calendar is filling up fast and we (my wife and I) will be hitting a lot of cities.

Speaking of my wife she decided to bake some cookies so if you see me looking chubby you know why. We couldn't eat them all so we took them to Moses Uvere's music video shoot last night... we didn't even bring the leftovers back so I hope everyone enjoyed them.

Moses's video shoot was for Word to Your Mother and it was a house party theme. I got to dj some and was super glad to be part of it. We finally got to meet Dj Knucklehead, who produced the track for Word to Your Mother and is also in the band Forever the Sickest Kids. Hopefully we can hang with him soon and catch one of his dj sets.

Moses (in the middle), his little brother and sister and Dj Knucklehead on the right

Now the night before the video shoot we got to hang with my wife's family at the Dallas Cowboy Stadium for some 4A High School Football Championships. Really cool cause we're with the winning team (Lake Travis Cavaliers). It was our first time in the stadium and even driving around that part of Dallas. Good to know whats around the area and see inside the big dome!

I guess I kind of started this blog post backwards, but Thursday night I went out to the Rio Room to see Dj Craze and Codes perform. I had to roll solo but if you know who Dj Craze is it was mad worth it.

Im new to Codes but he is also on Craze's Slow Roast label. Dude is clean on the cuts and plays some great house music. I don't have any footage but look up Codes House EP and as you already know CRAZE TORE IT UP!!! I even got a tweet back... Made my solo night out even better lol

Anyways I should probably stop now. I will save all this content I got laying around for the next post. Let me get back to work...

No this is not Sawyer... its Daisy.... our other Bangel (ask me about it later)

[DJ PROMOTE'S PERSONAL BLOG] It's Getting Busy

The last few months have been relatively slow for us. Which is good and bad. Its good cause we don't have to travel and get to do a lot of cool local things and bad because if we don't have shows we don't have #mula #cheddar #dinero #lol

As stuff starts to pick up I need to try and post more often. I do great with Twitter and Facebook but blogging means I have to stop, type and upload... hard when you want to work on mixes and other musical stuff. But never the less I know this content needs to stop filling up my iPhone and makes it way to the light of day! Let the blogging begin!

[DJ PROMOTE'S PERSONAL BLOG] Already 5 Months in Dallas!

Wow its already been 5 months that my wife and I have been in Dallas, Texas. (It feels like 2 months.) So much has happened in the time that we have been here. The transition to Dallas has definitely kept us busy and God has opened up so many new doors. Our first month here we connected with tons of people and got use to driving around as well as our area near the airport. I have collected tons of footage on my phone from the last 5 months and keep wanting to post it, but its just SOOO BUSY!!! The winter months should give us some time to decompress and maybe I can post up some of the cool things that have gone on. When God sends you somewhere JUST GO! You dont have to have it all figured out, just be obedient and he will provide. Thanks to everyone who has kept up with our move and been apart of this step in our lives. Hopefully I will get some time to share with you soon.

[Life As A Dj's Girl] Good Morning!!!

Carlos and I went to House of Faith Camp with CZ and Moses.  Their theme was Awaken, taken from Eph 5:14.  Awesome time with kids and staff.  :-)  MY favorite thing (of course if you know me at all you aren't surprised) was getting to play a "prank" on the kids....so Matt, Carlos, Eva, myself and two teens woke up early one morning and interviewed different kids and staff. Ummmmm, VERY early in the morning. More serious, SPIRITUAL stuff to come later! :-) :-)

[Life As A Dj's Girl] Camps! Camps! Summer Camps!

We've had so much fun at the past 3 summer camps we have been at!  I think for Carlos and I, the best parts have been the friendships we have made.  Being new here in the DFW area and traveling so much, we've recognized the importance of solid friendships - specifically Godly relationships/friendships with people who are willing to go the distance with God!  We get asked quite often what church we are a part of or if we have "found a church" yet.  No - not yet.  I think we might have only been home one Sunday since we have gotten here so not much time to go try any out.  Again - the importance and value of relationship's - so thanks to everyone of you who have spoken into our lives and spent some time investing in us!  Fellowship is sweet.  Iron sharpening iron kind of thing. (CZ and Monique!!  We will see you guys in July!)  :-)
Also been loving hanging out with all these kids!  Had some really good convos and learned new games...like...Bird-Man...and a few hand clapping games, got some Ukulele lessons (possibly my favorite)...and re-learned some old favorites like the cup game! You know, the things that can only happen at summer camp!  Its not over yet either!! Got another one coming up!  So here are just a few clips and pics from what we've done so far.  More to come!

[Life As A Dj's Girl] The Beginning

We are coming up on almost 2 months here in our new place!  Its been incredibly busy but super fun.  First three weeks or so here we didn't have Internet so I feel like we are just now catching up on emails, blogs, etc.  I think we pretty much lived on our iPhone and those are limited.  It actually got kinda annoying and we tried going to the library, the market down the street, Starbucks, anywhere we could find with Internet.  I don't think we are cut out for that.  We finally just broke down and got it in the apartment!  LOL! (so much for only having the "necessities")   Anyway, I am just thankful that I can blog this from my bed and on my laptop.  Yay!

This week was the second week of camps that Carlos dj'd and there are two more coming up.  Its been a new experience for him doing camps this summer.  First time he's really had a run and I think they are awesome.  The kids LOVE the parties and the energy he brings to the camps.  Looking forward to the next one but, whew!  Its just non-stop!

Here is just a quick little slide show of our first month or so here and a video of the last night at Stampede Camp in McKinney, TX.   Enjoy!

[Life As A Dj's Girl] Risen...

On Wednesday, Carlos performed "The Passion" for Bethel World Outreach Church in Nashville, TN.  BWO is the home church of our good friends, Verbs and Verna and they are also the Youth Pastors there. Everyone in the church had been encouraged to bring someone who they thought might not know about the Lord.  The service was packed!  After the performance Verbs spoke about how after seeing this – experiencing what they had – what were they gonna do with it?  And then the opportunity was given to those who were there to come and give their lives to Jesus.  Wow - we heard so many different testimonies!  A Muslim couple and their son who knew nothing about Jesus came and were impacted, youth came forward and made Jesus Lord, an older gentleman who had suffered a stroke came forward - and there was just this fire that was sparked in everyone's heart!!  For those of who had already made Him Lord, there was a sense of joy and thankfulness for His great sacrifice and gift.  One young woman came up and shared how it excited her to see how God could use ANYTHING (two turntables and a microphone!) to bring the gospel and glory to God.  She told me that was what she was gonna write her thesis on and I think the Carlos' performance just confirmed it for her.  Our new friend David watched Carlos mix The Passion and I believe the Lord just re-kindled the flame and desire in his heart to DJ for the Lord.

I love how The Passion doesn't just end with His death – you don't endure the whole experience and all that happened to Him and then leave depressed and sad – I love how its ends with Him coming back – the holes in His hands and just the knowledge that He totally defeated death – it couldn't hold Him.  He suffered and bled and died for US – so that we could be free – that His Kingdom would come on earth just like it is in Heaven.  I am so thankful for the opportunity to go and be a part – thankful for all that the Lord did Wednesday night – ultimately so thankful for the blood sacrifice – Jesus' death on the cross and that He didn't stay dead!!!!  To quote our friend Verbs:  "He has risen indeed!!"

Here are a few videos from the night:

[Life As A Dj's Girl] It Begins...

And so it begins….the start of a new season for Carlos and I.  April 15th was my last day working at the Children's Advocacy Center.  We are planning on making the move to the DFW area on May 1st so that we can get closer to a major airport.  Right now we are flying home from a trip to Nashville where we spent some time with amazing friends and Carlos performed "The Passion" for Bethel World Outreach Church's youth and congregation.  (More about that a little later.)  When we get back to Texas we have a Family Reunion, Easter, a few days at home to pack up our stuff and move Carlos' dad INTO our house. Then Carlos is off to Kansas City for a show with CZ and I'm spending the last few days in San Angelo hanging out with friends.  Just another week or so and our lives will change.  Pray for us – believing that God called us OUT – obeying although we don't know what "it" looks like – we trust and obey and just KNOW that God's gonna blow the lid off!  Can't wait!  More to come….
